Premier League SOS – Three signings Manchester City must make

Already eight points off Premier League leaders Chelsea and with the season not even at the mid-point yet, Manchester City can be backed at a distant 5/1 to retain their title, but if the Citizens are to turn around their form this term then January additions may be required.
Here are three big names being linked with moves to the Sky Blues come the start of next year and the reasons why the deals should and could be done in the near future.
Marco Reus – 6/1 to sign for Manchester City in January
The German forward has emerged as a prime target for the Citizens in recent months, with reports suggesting the Borussia Dortmund star’s contract with the Bundesliga club may contain a release clause somewhere in the region of €25m.
City face plenty of competition with Bayern Munich thought to be keen on recruiting the 25-year-old in the summer, though BVB would undoubtedly rather sell to the Premier League champions. And then there’s the small matter of Chelsea’s interest – the club may need to move fast on this one.
Sami Khedira – 8/1 to sign for Manchester City in January
One of the stars of Germany’s 7-1 demolition of Brazil at last summer’s World Cup, Khedira has been agitating for a move away from Real Madrid ever since with Arsenal believed to be in line to land the former Stuttgart favourite.
But with the Premier League champions on the lookout for a quality central midfielder amid concerns over the form of Yaya Toure, it’s unsurprising to see the midfielder linked with a move to Manchester City, who would undoubtedly meet any of his substantial wage or sign-on demands.
Gerard Pique – 16/1 to sign for Manchester City in January
A former Manchester United player he may be but with the Spain international is cutting something of a peripheral figure at Barcelona of late, a move away from Camp Nou to a club offering regular Champions League football could be just the ticket.
Little wonder then that City have emerged as contenders to sign Pique, with the Sky Blues concerned over the long-term viability of current defensive options like Eliaqium Mangala and Martin Demichelis – both of whom have endured tough starts to the season.
