Real Madrid v Liverpool: Another thrashing in store for Reds

Published:

Football has a renowned habit for kicking a side when its down, and Liverpool fans will not be delighted at their fixture list given their poor recent form.

Brendan Rodgers’ side face Real Madrid and Chelsea within the space of a week, far from ideal opponents for a team who have won just one in four.

First up is a trip to the Bernabeu, where Liverpool are 9/1 to beat Los Merengues, with the hosts priced at 1/4 to win and the draw available at 5/1.

Here are our best bets for this Champions League clash.

Cristiano Ronaldo to score first @ 11/4

There’s not much more to say about the Portuguese forward, who has scored in each of his past 12 appearances and racked up 22 strikes already this term in all competitions.

Ronaldo has scored the first goal in four of his past five appearances for Real Madrid, including the opener in their recent 3-0 win at Anfield.

Real Madrid to score 4+ goals @ 17/10

Carlo Ancelotti’s side are on a 11-game winning streak during which they have bagged a truly ridiculous 46 goals.

They’ve notched at least four goals in seven of those games, and in four of their past six outings, with only Liverpool and Barcelona able to restrict them to three in that time.

Madrid notched all three of their goals at Anfield in the first-half before easing off. We’re not expecting them to be so generous in front of their own fans.

Both teams to score @ 13/20

When you’re averaging over four goals a game over the past 11 matches, defensive concerns can slip down the agenda, and Real Madrid have conceded in four of their past five at the Bernabeu.

They tend to be especially casual at home in the group stages of the Champions League, conceding in seven of their past eight matches.

Liverpool have hardly been prolific of late, but they’ll likely grab at least one consolation goal in Spain.
