Burnley v Newcastle: Ings selection highlights no-frills approach

Published:

Burnley boss Sean Dyche will be all too aware how important picking up points at home will be to his side’s Premier League survival chances.

And having snatched a point at home to Aston Villa last time out the Clarets prepare to entertain Newcastle at Turf Moor.

The hosts are 19/10 to clinch a crucial victory while the draw can be snapped up at 23/10 and a Magpies win is 6/4 with Ladbrokes.

But ahead of what should be a close-fought contest, William Geldart has picked out three other bets to be on.

Newcastle to win by 1 goal @ 31/10

Those of you who fancy Alan Pardew’s outfit to bounce back from their defeat to West Ham could do worse than plump for a narrow success.

Four of Newcastle’s five Premier League victories have been by a one goal margin and they may have to settle for taking three points in a similar manner (not that they’d mind).

The Magpies had notched consecutive away scalps at Tottenham and West Brom respectively before their hiccup against the Hammers to get back on the winning trail here.

Danny Ings to score anytime @ 9/5

There’s little more that needs to be said when plotting Burnley’s mini-revival against the goalscoring exploits of Danny Ings.

The 22-year-old striker is furrowing a lone path this season and could be the Clarets’ only hope of survival.

His last-gasp equaliser against Aston Villa at the weekend was his fourth goal in five games and he’s the obvious choice to net in this encounter.

2-3 goals @ 20/21

This isn’t exactly a ‘sexy’ selection but it’s one that at least looks as if it’ll deliver a bit of value.

Eight of Burnley’s 13 Premier Leagues so far this term have seen this bet come in while seven of Newcastle’s matches have also delivered on this front.

The simple fact is that this fixture doesn’t exactly scream “goals” and in keeping with what could be a cagey affair we’ve plumped for this safe option.
