Christmas Number One: Hard man actor attempting to dethrone X Factor

Published:

The X Factor’s dominance of the Christmas number one slot looks set to continue this year with two of the show’s contestant’s leading the betting.

There are people not associated with the show in the running, but at prices of 3/1 and greater Ladbrokes doesn’t rate their chances of upsetting the Simon Cowell applecart too highly.

However, one TV hardman fancy his chances so read on to see who’s in with a shout this year…

X Factor – various

Show favourite Ben Haenow is the clear frontrunner to land the Christmas number one at 7/4. His bland, watered-down, paint-by-numbers style may not be to my liking but I’m clearly in the minority.

The man dubbed Shane Ward 2.0 (by me) looks nailed on to win X Factor 2015 and as such he’s a shoo-in for the festive top spot.

Fleur East is second favourite to win the show and also second favourite to win this race at 2/1 and while the Londoner has much more edge and excitement than her male rival this isn’t best suited to the slushy tones of a December ballad.

Andrea Faustini has been delivering the same old shtick for too many weeks now and is priced up at 8/1, while Stereo Kicks (16/1) and Lauren Platt (25/1) have more chance of beating Ronaldo to the Ballon d’Or.

Band Aid 30 – Do They Know It’s Christmas? @ 3/1

Charity angle? Check. Bob Geldof on board? Check. A number of pop star faces past and present? Check.

It was all looking so good for this re-imagining of the song that helped feed the world but after some high-profile criticism from Emeli Sande – who features on the track – and Lily Allen as well as a snub from Adele the chances of this well-meaning effort appear doomed.

Iron Maiden – The Number of the Beast @ 6/1

In a bid to emulate the success of Rage Against the Machine – who kept X Factor winner Joe McElderry off the top spot in 2009 with Killing In The Name Of – a Facebook campaign has started to see Iron Maiden halt Haenow’s run to the top.

More than 20,000 people have already signed up and more are expect to download the single from December 14th.

Idris Elba, Noel Fielding and Serge Pizzorno @ 33/1

Oh how we’d love this to be the Christmas number one and we haven’t even heard it. No one has?
TV hard man Elba recently revealed that he teamed up with the Might Boosh funnyman and the Kasabian rocker to record a festive rap a few years back.

Elba is convinced the trio have a hit on his hands and claims Pizzorno is ready to release the track.

Here’s Luther himself to explain the whole story:
