It’s Steve-O v Heather Mills as celebrities gear up for The Jump

Published:

When listing the things you like about winter you get quite far down before the return of Channel 4’s The Jump crops up.

But still, that’s exactly what’s happening and whatever your opinions on the show dubbed a cross between Celebrity Big Brother and Ski Sunday the line-up throws up some intriguing battles.

Jackass star Steve-O is the early favourite at 4/1 and while he may lack the skills, discipline and attention span to master events like speed skating and slalom skiing his fearlessness means he will be a force to be reckoned with when it comes to speed skiing and the titular Jump.

In what has to be described as one of the least likely partnerships, though, the former circus performer is pitted against Heather Mills.

Paul McCartney’s ex-wife is an accomplished skier and was even in the running to represent Team GB at the Paralympics but in true Mills fashion an argument with the establishment ruled her out.

However, popularity isn’t the name of the game on the Jump and her experience on the slopes makes her a solid pick at 6/1.

Double Paralympic silver medallist Jon-Allen Butterworth is sandwiched between the two at 5/1, while former rugby pro and current Mr Zara Phillips, Mike Tindall, can also be backed at 6/1.

At over 16 stone the former Gloucester centre is sure to pick up some pace in the downhill events.

Louise Hazel, who secured a 2010 Commonwealth Games gold medal in the heptathlon, is also worth consideration at 10/1, especially with the professional athlete given the same odds as JLS singer-turned –farmer, JB Gill.

Joey Essex can be backed at 16/1 but the Towie star is more likely to put his helmet on back to front, strap his skis to his hands and get lost half way down the mountain.

Regardless of who wins though, the chance to see some celebs crash land in the snow should not be passed up.
