Could somebody please tell Liverpool AVB would be a disaster?

Published:

Liverpool fans will rightly have concern etched across their already-frowning faces to hear reports former Chelsea and Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas is on a list of possible replacements for Brendan Rodgers.

The lunacy involved in this potential recruitment has more sides than a dodecahedron, but there are a few major factors which render the other minor issues obsolete, not least that the Reds should keep faith with Rodgers.

Currently a 16/1-shot to be the next Premier League Manager to leave; the Reds must resist the urge to react with a bullet during what was always going to be a transitional season.

West Ham and Newcastle are shining examples of what patience can deliver at present, but if Liverpool’s American owners want rid, then AVB is not the answer in any shape or form.

As ex-player Danny Murphy has already said, why would Liverpool want to take on a manager who was sacked at both Chelsea and Tottenham?

The Premier League is a uniquely competitive beast and certain philosophies and personalities simply do not suit it, and the Portuguese gaffer fits both those bills.

Having earned some sympathy for his Chelsea dismissal, there was no such empathy for the cardinal croucher by the time he left Spurs in a spin last season.

The main reason for the sudden interest in the former Porto shot-caller is the likelihood he will guide Zenit St Petersburg to the Russian Premier League title this season, and could qualify for the Champions League knockout stages.

However, nothing has been won yet, while there are plenty of managers who have been found wanting in England, then achieved varying success abroad, but for good reason still remain in the Premier League wilderness.

Claudio Ranieri (just sacked by Greece), Sven-Goran Eriksson and Martin Jol spring to mind.

AVB clearly has something to offer, somewhere, just not at Anfield.
