Maidstone expected to foil FA Cup foes Wrexham on Welsh soil

| 06.12.2014

Having frustrated League Two Stevenage at Broadhall Way in the previous round of the FA Cup, Maidstone can repeat the dose against Wrexham at the Racecourse Ground.

The Dragons may well be 8/13 for victory on home soil, while the 3/1 draw is deemed more likely to transpire than a victory for the Stones at 4/1.

Yet it’s well worth backing the Isthmian League title chasers to avoid defeat in south Wales at 23/20 thanks to their habit of keeping it tight on the road.

Their hosts’ far-from-lethal-form in their own backyard will be grist to the mill of the double-chance bet, as will the fact that Wrexham are missing midfielder Rob Evans through suspension.

Giant’s blood still dripping from their incisors, Maidstone have tasted defeat just three times in their last 12 road games.

Moreover they’ve conceded more than once in one of their last nine away fixtures, keeping five clean sheets during that period.

When you’ve got a striker in the kind of form their 16-goal former-Gillingham marksman Frannie Collin is in such a defence forms a formidable platform for procuring a result.

Meanwhile, there is little pressure on them to go for the jugular, with their superb form back at the Gallagher Stadium meaning they’ll happily drag Wrexham back to Kent for a replay.

The Dragons are in much less formidable nick, claiming maximum reward three times in their last 14 games.

At home the Welshmen have won a mere five of their 12 home league games this term, scoring just 15 times in the process.

Their lack of attacking extravagance at the Racecourse makes a side bet on under 2.5 goals in the contest an appealing diversion from our recommended wager at 20/21.

Seven of Maidstone’s last nine road trips have gone the same way, making it something of a surprise the unders are an outsider in the goal-line betting, with over 2.5 goals a 4/5 shot.
