The Spectre of Idris Elba stands tall in next James Bond market
Hot on the heels of Sam Mendes’ announcement that the 24th James Bond film will be named Spectre, Ladbrokes is already looking towards life after Daniel Craig with Idris Elba the current market leader to be the next 007.
The star of critically-acclaimed TV favourites like “The Wire” and “Luther” has long been linked with taking up the role once Craig decides to call time on his tenure as the world’s most famous secret agent.
But recent months have seen several other names emerge as possible contenders for the part with the biggest market mover being Lord of the Rings and Hobbit favourite Orlando Bloom.
The 37-year-old, who is also known for the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, has been the subject of some interest from punters in the last couple of weeks, with his odds backed into 4/1 from a massive 50/1 with the bookmaker.
He’s remains just behind Tom Hardy, however, with the star of the long-awaited Mad Max: Fury Road on at 7/2 with Ladbrokes to be named as the next James Bond.
And while Craig is contracted for one more outing as 007 beyond “Spectre” it would appear that there is a growing belief that his successor may have already been identified.
Jessica Bridge, of Ladbrokes, said: “Daniel Craig might not have finished with his 007 tux yet, but the odds suggest Idris Elba’s sent his to the dry cleaners in preparation for the big call up to be the next Bond.”
Here is a list of all the contenders to be the next James Bond, and their odds, in full:
