Streaking Golden State Warriors looking like must-back NBA title shots

| 03.12.2014

The Golden State Warriors believe they have been positioning themselves as potential NBA Championship winners for a few seasons.

They wouldn’t have sacked coach Mark Jackson after losing in the first round of the playoffs last year if they didn’t.

Jackson took what was a losing franchise and transformed them, registering improving win numbers in each of his three regular seasons in charge and helping to build what is a well-rounded and dangerous unit.

But when the Warriors were dumped out in the first round of the postseason last term, Jackson was replaced by former Chicago Bulls shooter Steve Kerr, who had no previous coaching experience.

The move was a head-scratcher at the time, but is looking increasingly shrewd now, as the Warriors enjoy the best start to a season in franchise history, along with a 10-game winning streak that is one shy of equalling the team’s record.

Backing the Warriors to win the NBA title now would mean a long wait to see if it’ll pay out, considering there are still 65 regular-season games to play and potentially four best-of-seven playoff series’, but 10/1 on a team that look like only slowing down for injuries is too good to ignore.

With the starting guards, Steph Curry and Klay Thompson, deadly from three-point range, Kerr has two players made in his mould to work with, and is making full use of them.

Under Kerr the team’s offense has improved and Curry is continuing his trajectory to being one of the top five players in the league.

Should they carry on the way they are, the Warriors can expect a far higher seed in the playoffs this year (they are currently second in the Western Conference) and a deeper run into it to boot. By then there is no chance anything as long as 10/1 for the title will be available.
