Strictly Come Dancing: Shock Pixie exit leaves Jake in the driving seat

| 08.12.2014

It’s been described as the biggest upset in Strictly Come Dancing history, with long time favourite to win the show Pixie Lott given her marching orders on Saturday.

She may have topped the ‘Waltzathon’ but that wasn’t enough to save the singer as she came off second best in the dance-off.

But her demise doesn’t hand the Glitterball Trophy to her previous rival for favouritism Frankie Bridge by any stretch of the imagination.

With five left in the competition, we take a look at how the quintet performed at the weekend.

Caroline & Pasha – 3/1 (from 5/1)

The momentum behind the TV presenter continues, as the pair put in a near-perfect Argentine Tango to rack up a score of 39.

With one of her main rivals in Pixie now eliminated, victory for Flack looks a real possibility.

When Craig Revel-Horwood describes your performance as “one of the most thrilling Argentine Tangos i’ve ever seen”, you know you’ve done well.

Jake & Jannette – 7/4 (from 10/3)

The main benefactor of the shock elimination, the Eastenders actor bounced back from a poor showing last week with an entertaining Charleston.

Len Goodman described it as a “circus of delight” before awarding Wood with a perfect 10.

With 38 points, Jake is right back in the reckoning after the disappointment of his Argentine Tango.

Simon & Kristina – 8/1 (from 9/2)

A solid performance from the Blue singer, though not spectacular with the judges awarding him 35 out of 40, not a show-stopping score by any means, highlighted by the fact he had to come through a dance-off.

The drift on his ‘Show Winner’ odds probably says it all about the timing of his just above-average American Smooth routine.

With the competition hotting up, he will need to pull it out of the bag to stay competitive next week.

Mark & Karen – 16/1 (from 20/1)

Whilst many expected the TOWIE star to be given his marching orders this week, a solid showing ensured a stay for at least another week.

A 35-point total put him level on points with Simon, but a poor showing in the Waltzathon left him in danger of the dance-off.

Alas he avoided it but can only be a matter of time before he is sent home to Essex.

Frankie & Kevin – 2/1 (from 11/4)

What happened this weekend? Favourite eliminated, second-favourite with the lowest score of the week, it all went on in the ballroom.

The Saturdays star put in a Salsa routine that was “rough around the edges” according to Len, resulting in a meagre total (at this stage at least) of 35.

Still, the singer lives to fight another day, and will surely be back with a bang next week to wrestle away favouritism from Jake.
