Chelsea v Liverpool: The easy pickings angle for first scorer

Published:

After suffering an excruciating 4-2 loss at home to League One Bradford in the FA Cup, it could be argued that there has never been a better time to visit Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea, but with Liverpool hardly trustworthy this season it’s a tough Capital One Cup semi-final to call.

Here at news.ladbrokes it’s our job to cut through this particular mustard, so three best bets have been garnered:

Eden Hazard to score the first goal @ 11/2

Chelsea’s nimble-footed Belgian has bagged openers in his past two Capital One Cup outings, including in the first-leg of this tie at Anfield.

Hazard is in ferocious first-goal form of late, with four in his last 12 matches since the start of December, which suggests this price is way off in relation to 4/1 pair Didier Drogba and Loic Remy, who haven’t managed as many openers between them all season.

Chelsea to be winning at half time @ 21/20

Mourinho’s side look a decent bet just to win against Liverpool at 8/13, having not lost to the Reds in six games and beating them in three of the Portuguese’s four clashes with Brendan Rodgers.

However, getting behind the west Londoners to go in at the break with a lead, as they have in each of their past four games including the aberration against Bradford, seems the best way to maximise profits.

Raheem Sterling to score the last goal @ 8/1

The England forward’s past two goals have closed proceedings in their respective matches, and the other fixture Sterling has scored in since mid-December, when he bagged a couple in the 3-1 victory at Bournemouth, saw his last put Liverpool 3-0 up.

Like Hazard, Sterling hit the mark in the first leg at Anfield, and with few standout candidates to consistently score in the Reds’ ranks bar rotated captain Steven Gerrard, the 20-year-old warrants a wager.
