League Two Accumulator: Creeping Stevenage look set to climb further

Published:

We all know and appreciate that League Two is bonkers and that any team on a half-decent run can go from lower mid-table fodder to play-off certainties in a matter of weeks.

And that’s why it often pays to back teams as they approach their upward curve rather than those who are looking vulnerable or alternatively, just plain stink.

Yes, like the savvy tipsters we are, we’re treating our fourth division heroes like stocks and shares.

So, get on Stevenage, Burton Albion, Newport County and Exeter City while they’re hot and put a £10 stake on all four to get £199.34 back with Ladbrokes.

Stevenage to beat AFC Wimbledon @ 5/4

To put our theory to the test we’re plumping for a Stevenage outfit who’ve been steadily going about their business of late.

Having suffered just one defeat in their last six games Graham Westley’s side are now creeping into the play-off picture.

The Hertfordshire club are especially good at home, with eight wins in 12 matches secured at the Lamex Stadium.

Of course, Wimbledon are no slouches themselves but we’re expecting an FA Cup comedown for the Dons, something that’s been exacerbated by the recent loss of top scorer Matt Tubbs to Portsmouth.

Burton to beat Mansfield @ 3/4

Teams flying high will often beat those that are quite frankly pretty rubbish. At least, let’s hope so here.

Jimmy-Floyd Hasselbaink’s Burton are on the crest of a wave following a crucial victory against promotion rivals Shrewsbury last time out that extended their unbeaten run to six games.

Meanwhile, Mansfield are painfully bog standard on their travels, with just one win from their previous nine away from Field Mill.

There can only be one outcome…

Newport to beat Portsmouth @ 5/4

A favourite of ours at present, Newport are the gift that keep on giving. For now.

Portsmouth may have signed a shiny new striker but even Tubbs can’t mask a desperate run of just one win in eight games.

By contrast, Newport’s ascent has been built upon a streak of six wins in seven and the Exiles can continue to pile the misery upon their south coast visitors.

Exeter to beat Northampton @ 5/4

This one is something of a no-brainer.

While Exeter may have stuttered of late their opponents’ form is dreadful with Northampton losing five of their last six League Two fixtures.

The Cobblers’ away form is a particular concern with Chris Wilder’s men losing six straight games on their travels.

By contrast, the Grecians have only suffered one defeat in their previous seven matches at St. James Park and look a decent bet to add to their visitors’ woes.
