Price Boost: Robin van Persie rested and ready to fire opener

| 07.01.2015

Robin van Persie’s brace proved decisive when Manchester United and Southampton met last and now the clinical Dutchman has been enhanced to score in the return fixture too.

Man United’s number 20 has seen his odds bumped up by Ladbrokes from 4/1, out to 5/1, to break the deadlock when the two sides clash at Old Trafford.

This rates a fantastic price for plenty of reasons, not least that alongside Wayne Rooney the Holland star is United’s joint-top marksman in the Premier League with eight to his name ahead of Saints’ visit.

Five of those strikes arrived within RVP’s last eight top-flight appearances, though it’s his exemplary record against Southampton which really renders this price boost a beauty.

There are few sides in the Premier League whom Van Persie hasn’t scored multiple goals against, but he’s filled his boots against the side from the south coast.

The two he notched down at St Mary’s made it seven goals in as many games facing this opposition.

Also weighing heavily in RVP’s favour is the fact that Louis van Gaal afforded his compatriot a total rest last time out, when his team travelled down to League One Yeovil in the FA Cup.

A spot of revitalisation is probably just what the doctor ordered for the 31-year-old, as United look to keep their inspired Old Trafford form going.

The Red Devils have a whole host of squad members returning from injury to heighten their chances of securing a sixth straight home win under Van Gaal.
