Transfer Wishlist: Finding strikers key for Swansea this Jan

Published:

Which areas do they need to strengthen?

With Wilfried Bony, possibly the best striker ever to don a Swansea jersey, just a signature away from completing a big-money move to Manchester City, it is pretty clear where Garry Monk will be focussing his time this January, especially as the squad is pretty well balanced otherwise.

Who have they been linked with?

Papiss Cisse, Anthony Modeste, Mario Gomez, Tom Carroll, Troy Deeney, Matt Lowton, Kyle Naughton, Aleksandar Mitrovic, Gary Mackay-Steven

January Wishlist Best Buys

Mario Gomez (Fiorentina)

Chances of signing: The former world-beater for Bayern Munich has been even more of a disappointment since joining Fiorentina in 2013 than anything Liverpool have brought in this season, scoring just once in 15 games this term. His 66 strikes in 68 games in Germany will likely ensure he still demands a large fee, and he could relish the chance to restore his reputation.

Papiss Cisse (Newcastle)

Chances of signing: Supposedly the Magpies are keen to rid themselves of their Premier League top scorer this season, which would benefit Swansea, who would be getting far more of a sure thing from the Senegalese than with Gomez at a cheaper price too.

Tom Carroll (Swansea)

Chances of signing: After impressing in recent outings, many at the Liberty Stadium are keen for Carroll to make his loan move from Tottenham permanent. That could well be feasible too, with Spurs chock full of central midfielders already.

We Recommend…

Wissam Ben Yedder (Toulouse)

The 24-year-old Frenchman of Tunisian descent is more of a fleet-footed striker than Swansea have been used to, but is developing into a potent finisher in Ligue 1.

Since becoming a regular in the TFC first team during the 2012/13 season, Ben Yedder has registered 15 then 16 goals in all competitions for the club and has seven from 21 outings so far this term.
