Yedlin’s Spurs arrival paves way for Leicester to hunt Naughton

| 13.01.2015

USA defender DeAndre Yedlin’s arrival at White Hart Lane gives Tottenham an embarrassment of riches at right-back and Leicester for one are willing to alleviate the full-back log jam in January.

The return to fitness and form of England right-back Kyle Walker for the 13/2 top-four shots would appear to nudge Kyle Naughton down the pecking order, and possibly straight into Leicester’s grateful arms.

The Foxes may have to fight off competition from fellow relegation contenders QPR, though some reports say a £3m bid has already been lodged by the Midlands outfit.

Whether or not Mauricio Pochettino and the Spurs board agree with that valuation is another matter, but Naughton has only made 10 appearances in all competitions this season.

Two red cards for the former Sheffield United trainee clearly haven’t assisted his chances of cementing the right-back berth at the Lane either this term.

And weighing heavily in the favour of the Foxes getting their man was the success of Naughton’s loan spell at the club during the 2010/11 campaign in the Championship.

Not known for his goals, Naughton chipped in with five during his season-long stint at the King Power Stadium.

Despite a much-needed recent resurgence for Nigel Pearson’s men, their ambitions to stay in the Premier League could hinge on successful recruitment during the winter transfer window.

Croatian striker Andrej Kramaric has been brought in to address the top end of the pitch, but having leaked only four goals shy of the current divisional high, there is definite room for improvement at the back.
