Agent of Bundesliga defender in London to discuss Spurs move

| 02.02.2015

A number of Tottenham’s fringe centre-backs are being linked with moves away from the club on transfer deadline day, meaning the White Hart Lane outfit need a contingency plan for the possibility of them leaving.

It seems that 22-year-old Austrian Kevin Wimmer is that plan, with German newspaper Sport Bild reporting that the defender’s agent is in London to discuss his client’s move to north London.

Wimmer, a centre-back at FC Koln, has made over 50 appearances for the Bundesliga outfit since signing for them from LASK Linz in 2012 and has started 18 league games for the club this term.

An Austrian U21 international yet to be capped at senior level, Wimmer could be viewed as a young talent Mauricio Pochettino could nurture on the training ground once the likes of Vlad Chiriches and Younes Kaboul, both wanted by Roma, have departed.

Buying a young replacement for the pair, who both want regular playing time in the primes of their careers, could be the ideal solution for the Argentine tactician, who seems to have settled on Jan Vertonghen and Federico Fazio as his regular defensive partnership, with Eric Dier as first reserve.

Although Bild haven’t suggested a potential fee for Wimmer in their report, they do suggest the deal can be completed before Monday’s deadline.
