Super League team guide: Huddersfield up to make amends
Team Name: Huddersfield
Ground: John Smith’s Stadium
Famous Fans: Ryan Sidebottom, Chris Hanson, Georgia Harrup
Super League Wins: None
Last Season: 3rd
New Signings: Craig Huby (Castleford), Jamie Ellis (Castleford), Oliver Roberts (Bradford), Jack Hughes (Wigan)
Head Coach: Paul Anderson
The former prop was promoted to the role of Head Coach in 2013, having joined the Giants’ coaching ranks upon hanging up his boots in 2006, and boy did he make an impact.
His first season in charge saw the Castleford-born man take Huddersfield to their first League Leaders’ shield in 81 years.
Several decent finishes in the regular season will provide plenty of encouragement to the man in charge at the Claret and Gold, but he will be desperate to add to his Grand Final winners’ medals he picked up as a player for St Helens and Bradford, this time in a coaching capacity.
Star Man: Danny Brough
As a former Man of Steel, Danny Brough knows all about upping his performance on the big day, but the Giants skipper has lamented how the club has “no excuses” for their failure to do better than one Grand Final in the last six years of making the Play-Offs.
With a new half-back partnership following the recent arrival of Jamie Ellis, some of the kicking pressure will be off the Scottish international, and his all-round game will surely be the benefactor of that.
Huddersfield will need him to shine if they are to bag their maiden Super League title.
