Evans and Cisse should be given chance to explain, says Kammy

After appearing to spit at each other in Manchester United’s 1-0 win over Newcastle on Wednesday night Johnny Evans and Papiss Cisse are facing loud calls to be banned.
BBC pundits Dietmar Hamann and Phil Neville immediately called for the pair to be retrospectively suspended, with the former Magpie branding the act “unacceptable” and “disgusting”.
There is a precedent in this case, with former Hull midfielder George Boyd being handed a three-match ban last year for spitting at Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart.
However, while the video evidence appears to be damning for both players, Ladbrokes ambassador Chris Kamara feels both men deserve an opportunity to put forward their version of events before they are publicly flogged.
Commenting on the incident, Kammy said: “Only Jonny Evans knows if it was deliberate or an accident. He didn’t puff his cheeks out but you can see some saliva came out.
“Cisse has responded as it’s not nice – it’s the lowest of the low if someone spits on you – but let’s give Evans a chance to explain himself before we cast aspersions.”
Kamara called for both players to be given an opportunity to explain the incident – if at all possible – and said the video evidence might not tell the full story.
“Spitting on someone else is a horrible thing to do but I could read Evans’ lips and he appeared to be saying ‘what are you on about? I didn’t spit at you’ so you just don’t know,” he added.
“I think we have to wait and see and not pre-empt any decision. The authorities are on to it now so we’ll have to wait and see how they react to it.”
