After a weekend in which the Championship promotion picture was further muddied with five of the top seven failing to pick up maximum points, it’s all eyes on another busy midweek in the second tier.
With games spread out across Tuesday and Wednesday night and just three points separating second from sixth, plenty needs to be resolved at the top of the table while at the bottom two other teams could edge nearer to a likely drop alongside Blackpool.
Here are the five top talking points in the Championship this week.
Cherries season turning sour at worst time
Having previously led the pack in the chase for automatic promotion, a run of three points from the last 15 available in the Championship means Bournemouth may now be in danger of missing out on the play-offs altogether and with Wolves visiting next a decisive encounter looks likely.
Lions may be in for a Middlesbrough mauling
Six points from safety and with time running out, Ian Holloway needs to start getting results soon if he is to keep Millwall up this season. Unfortunately a run of one draw and three defeats in their last four, coupled with a trip to Middlesbrough, means this could be the final nail in the coffin.
Watford can provide sting in the promotion tail
The Hornets showed plenty of character to comeback from 2-0 down against Leeds last weekend, taking advantage of slip-ups from Boro, Derby, Ipswich and Bournemouth in the process. But that will count for nothing unless they can see off hapless Fulham at Vicarage Road.
Tractor Boys need to kick-start play-off push
Mick McCarthy’s low-cost side have held on in the battle for a play-off spot thus far but after defeat to Norwich the Blues will need to respond against Leeds. Ipswich beat the Whites 4-1 earlier this season and a similar result could give them fresh hope of Premier League football.
No prisoners taken when Norwich legend visits
Though die-hard Canaries may not wish to admit it, Malky Mackay is a club legend with over 200 appearances for the East Anglia outfit under his belt. That will matter little to a Norwich side now chasing a top-two finish with Mackay’s Wigan side likely to be playing in League One should they lose.
