Price Boost: Rooney given enhanced odds to down Newcastle

| 04.03.2015

Newcastle United attempted to sign Wayne Rooney when he was still a teenager at Everton and they have been reminded of their failure to land him ever since.

Rooney has been a thorn in the Magpies’ side ever since he snubbed St James’ Park in favour of Old Trafford, with his career goal tally standing at 12 from 21 games against Newcastle.

In more cases than not, those goals have led to a win for the Old Trafford club, with Rooney being on the victorious side in 14 of those 21 clashes and losing just twice.

And, with Newcastle’s chief tormentor back among the goals, Ladbrokes have decided to boost Rooney’s odds on scoring the opener in their midweek meeting from 4/1 to 11/2.

Despite his record against them, Newcastle wouldn’t have been too uncomfortable with the thought of shackling the England captain just a few short weeks ago, with his midfield role meaning a distinct lack of shots let alone goals.

However, he has been returned to the attacking line-up and travels to the north-east having scored three goals in his last three games including a brace against Sunderland last time out.

Rooney’s tally for the season now stands at 17 goals for club and country in 32 games and with 10 of those strikes coming in the Premier League and six of those coming first in games this looks like a Price Boost not to be missed.
