Everton eyeing up the next Bayern Munich Premier League import

Michael Ballack, Didi Hammann, Owen Hargreaves – three midfielders who have made the switch from Bayern Munich to the Premier League, and now Everton are looking to add to that list.
After trouncing Manchester United 3-0 at Goodison Park on Sunday, you could forgive the Toffees for resting on their laurels, but it appears Roberto Martinez was straight back to work with his summer scouting on Monday.
Reports are linking the Merseyside club with a move for Bayern’s Mitchell Weiser in the summer, with the 21-year-old struggling to hold down a position at Der FCB,
It certainly isn’t for the lack of trying from the former Koln man after he put in a Man of the Match performance for the German champions against Werder Bremen at the weekend.
He set up the only goal in the game at the Allianz Arena taking his tally to one goal and three assists in 11 appearances in the centre of the park this campaign.
With bags of pace, the youngster capable of playing at full-back or on the wing has put in some very solid performances for the Bavarians.
However with the likes of Phillip Lahm, Arjen Robben and Frank Ribery in front of him, opportunities have been rather sparse.
Reports in the Mirror suggest that Everton lead the race for his signature and with his contract coming to an end, he could be available for a nominal fee due to his age.
Breaking through from the Koln academy, Weiser pushed through a €500,000 transfer to the Munich side and became the club’s youngest ever Bundesliga player aged 17.
He could break the mould in a different way if swapping the Allianz Arena for Goodison Park in the summer, and become only the third German to play league football for Everton.
Although he’s likely to have Seamus Coleman ahead of him in the pecking order, a move to the Premier League could be the catalyst for his career to forge on, as well as providing competition in vital areas for the Toffees.
Victory at the weekend was a fourth straight home triumph for Martinez’s men, and a top-eight finish now looks on the cards again.
Reinforcements to provide strength in depth could be just the ticket for the blue half of Merseyside to be challenging for Europe again in 2015-16.
