There was a time early in his Arsenal tenure when the trophies were arriving so regularly that Arsene Wenger simply had no reason to grumble, but over the past decade as the titles have dried up like prunes, this drastically changed.

Even the capture of the FA Cup last year, which finally ended the eight-year barren patch on his north London resume, could not halt the master griper in his tracks either.

Be it his old pal Jose Mourinho, the fixture list or simply the tactics of other teams, Monsiuer Wenger has bemoaned them all over the years and his latest swipe at Fifa has prompted a top-five rundown of his most laughable.

Perhaps it’s a natural by-product of getting longer in the tooth, but at this stage of his managerial career, even a second successive FA Cup trophy, rated very likely at 2/7, won’t be enough to subdue the Frenchman’s penchant for a wine.

2015 – Wenger’s latest source of irritation is Fifa, who the Gunners boss clearly feels have made a scheduling error with the forthcoming Copa America.

“I am really surprised Fifa authorised that,” said the Frenchman. “I’ll watch [the Copa America], but with a little bit of fear. “Sanchez has played 50 games for us and goes there again, having already played in the World Cup last summer.”

2015 – Having witnessed a car crash at the Emirates against unfancied Monaco in this season’s Champions League, Arsenal’s valiant efforts in the return leg unsurprisingly fell just short. Rather than the suicidal defending which cost his team in game one, the away rules goals copped the blame instead.

2014 – Clearly irked by Chelsea’s decision to sell Juan Mata to Manchester United after they had played them twice last season, Wenger couldn’t resist this pathetic jibe.

Wenger: “Chelsea had already played twice against Man United so they don’t play again any more. “They could have sold him last week but it opens up again questions about the dates of this transfer window. “Some teams have already played twice against one opponent and some others not. “I think if you want to respect the fairness for everybody exactly the same, that should not happen.”

2010 – One of Wenger’s most laughable laments is aimed at Portuguese side Braga who had the audacity to play Arsenal on the counter attack and win.

“We played against a team who refused to play and tried to catch us on the counter attack,” said Wenger. “They used every single trick in the book to slow the game down.”

2009 – Wenger is not impressed after being held 1-1 at Burnley, shortly after Manchester United strolled past a much-changed Wolves side in the Premier League.

“It’s sad but what can I do about that? I’m responsible for Arsenal and we’ll compete with United over 37 games instead of 38,” Wenger said. “I believe it’s a problem for the international credibility of the Premier League, but it’s not my problem, it’s a Premier League problem.

“The Premier League has a basic problem in organising the fixtures in a normal way because the guy who organised the fixtures must have come out of a very special school and he’s more intelligent than I am.”
