Farewell tears nailed on after Liverpool captain’s interview

After a farewell tour that has lasted months, Steven Gerrard’s final gig at Anfield is now just days away.

Never again, we are led to believe, will the former England international play a competitive match at his home ground once the final whistle is blown against Crystal Palace on Saturday evening.

With tickets reportedly being sold for £2,000 online, it is safe to say that all eyes will be on the Reds skipper as he makes his last home appearance before jetting off to the MLS.

Much is anticipated from the midfielder during the game. Jamie Carragher thinks his former teammate will break down and cry, while an interview Gerrard conducted with Sky Sports certainly indicates that tears could be a possibility.

Great news, then, for any Ladbrokes customer perusing the wide-range of Steven Gerrard Specials the bookie has released for the Palace clash. 6/4 now looks a fantastic price about the famous number eight weeping during the 90 minutes.

“I’m not like Jamie, I’m not made of stone,” he told Sky, before adding “there’s no shame in shedding a tear I don’t think.”

Elsewhere, Ladbrokes offer 3/1 that the 34-year-old grabs a goal in front of the Kop end. They also rate it as a near certainty, at 8/11, that he kisses the badge on his shirt during the game.

Whatever happens, Gerrard is sure to get a rousing reception from the Liverpool faithful, but whether Brendan Rodgers affords him that time by bringing him off, or waits until after the final whistle remains to be seen.

Getting substituted between the 76th and 85th minute is 7/4 favourite according to Ladbrokes, while 2/1 is aligned with a substitution in the last five.

3/1 suggests the skipper will last the full 90 minutes and 25/1 says the entire occasion pumps him up so much that he gets sent off.
