This opening match of the Munster Hurling Championship is easily the game of the weekend on paper.

Meanwhile, Limerick will be keen to lay down a marker and build-upon last year’s All Ireland semi-final.

MONAGHAN to beat Cavan – Ulster SFC quarter-final, Live on RTE2

Strap yourself in for what’s guaranteed to be a fiery affair between these neighbours.

Matches between the two sides are always hard-fought encounters and we expect this to be no different.

But we have to pick a winner and it’s Malachy O’Rourke’s outfit who get the nod when they travel to Breffni Park.

Runners-up in last year’s Ulster Championship and league semi-finalists this term, the visitors should have just enough to see off a tight Cavan unit.

ANTRIM to beat Carlow – Leinster SHC

There’s a lot riding on this one with the loser relegated from next year’s Championship.

Antrim had started their campaign well with a victory over Laois but slumped to a poor defeat against Westmeath last time out.

Meanwhile, Carlow have performed well but have lost both of their matches so far.

It’s been a poor season for the former in part because of a number of injury problems, however their experience of playing at a higher level in recent years should hand them the edge.

LAOIS to beat Westmeath – Leinster SHC

Westmeath have been riding the crest of a wave lately, belying their lowly league status to remain undefeated so far.

However, this clash with Laois could be a step too far.

The latter bounced back from their opening loss to defeat Carlow and will be buoyed by the return of Stephen Maher.

That kind of firepower will be difficult for Westmeath to counteract.
