Hipster Tipster: Barcelona and Bayern Munich make the cut again

Published:

This week there’s only be one topic of interest for me and my Palermo-loving football enthusiasts and no the answer is not Cristiano ruddy Ronaldo or Juventus.

No, for me, it was all about Dnipro’s historic victory over Rafa Benitez’s Napoli, in a highly engaging, if rainsoaked, Europa League semi-final.

The Warriors of Light have been a real credit to the competition and I was only too happy to raise a steiner of weissbier to the Ukraine side.

Now that the merriment is over, I’m ready to get back down to business with a fantastic fourfold that errs on the side of the obvious.

Yes, picking PSG, Bayern and Barcelona is not exactly the most imaginative of selections and yes, I am well aware that Genoa’s six consecutive Serie A titles from 1897 to 1904 put them in a similar bracket but that’s just the way it is.

Besides which, I’ve got an appointment with my local beard barber in about half an hour and if I don’t get this thing in check soon, I’m going to start looking less hipster and more hobo!

Bayern Munich to beat Freiburg @ 1/2

Oh Pep. Oh Pep it was horrible. What have they done to you Pep? What have they done? Pe…sorry, I lost myself a bit there. Yes, Bayern were cack over two legs against Barca but a game against a team fourth bottom in the Bundesliga should see them bounce back.

PSG to beat Montpellier @ 1/2

Zlatan and gang are closing in on the Ligue 1 title and after an exciting season in which an expensively-constructed group of players from across the globe has struggled to beat teams with a quarter of their budget, the title could be seal with a win over Montpellier. Bon nuit!

Genoa to beat Atalanta @ 7/4

Genoa are dangerously close to qualifying for the Europa League and while that is apparently bad news for teams in the Premier League, those on the continent actually like the idea of offering fans some exciting European trips. Atalanta are also garbage.

Barcelona to beat Atletico Madrid @ 8/11

This would have been a good game about six months ago. As it is, Atletico have all but sealed third spot while Barca can trump Real to the league title with a victory. Will Atleti roll over to deny their Madrid arch-rivals more silverware? Perish the thought…
