Kamara: Let’s hope Cellino return brings Leeds some stability

Published:

Leeds United have endured their fair share of turmoil this season and events took another twist yesterday after owner Massimo Cellino was granted permission to return to the club’s board.

Reacting to the news, former Whites midfielder, Chris Kamara, said: “Cellino is the man who has put the put money in and if he took it out today then Leeds would fold. It’s still a pantomime at the club but hopefully things will settle down.”

Cellino’s involvement in football was suspended by the Football League until the end of the season in December last year following a conviction for tax evasion in Italy.

A subsequent appeal was also rejected but the former Cagliari supremo has now passed a Fit and Proper Persons test and been reinstated as chairman with immediate effect.

The controversial Italian has also had a noticeable impact on the pitch having made three managerial appointments throughout the 2014-15 campaign.

Dave Hockaday was sacked after just six games in charge while his replacement Darko Milanic lasted just 32 days at the helm.

Popular club figure Neil Redfearn subsequently guided Leeds away from the wrong end of the table however his long-term future remains unclear.

Cellino told BBC Sport: “I need to decide whether Neil is best for the club and can lead us back to the Premier League,” he said.

“I am in love with Neil and I don’t want to talk to anyone else about the job. I made sure he had a clause guaranteeing he would pick the team because I don’t want a coach I control.”

While the chairman’s plans are still undecided, Kammy went on to give his verdict on Leeds’ chances of making an impact next term.

“We’ll see what happens next season. Who would’ve thought Bournemouth would go up?” he added.

“Watford changed their manager four times this season and they’ve gone up. I’m not sure that’s ever happened before!”
