50/1 Englishman is outstanding each-way Lyoness Open value

For one week only Austrian golfer Bernd Wiesberger knows what it’s like to be Rory McIlroy.
Back at his home tournament, the Lyoness Open, which he won in 2012, the country’s best golfer is the toast of Atzenbrugg, with a set of odds to match.
The world number 37 is Ladbrokes’ 4/1 favourite for the tournament, the kind of skinny price usually reserved for the Northern Irishman whenever he appears at a tournament.
Along with his triumph three years ago, Wiesberger finished as the runner up at the event 12 months ago and has a tied-second to his name from his last outing on Tour, at the McIlroy-hosted Irish Open.
Despite that extensive dossier of evidence for a week of Wiesberger dominance at the Diamond Country Club, those 4/1 odds are just too thinly sliced to take a plunge.
Instead, it’s the 50/1 chances of Englishman Lee Slattery that appeals from the field, with a strong recent affinity with the Lyoness coupling handily with an impressive last outing on Tour.
The Southport native has consecutive top-10 finishes to his name in Austria, following up the ninth he secured in 2013 with a spot just outside the top three last year.
Add that to the T7 he picked up at last week’s Nordea Masters, where his putter turned abnormally hot, and it’s clear that now is the time to support him with an each-way wager.
Sticking with the each-way theme, 80/1-shot Simon Wakefield’s history at the Lyoness Open is worth a small investment, even if his current form screams loudly against such an action.
The 41-year-old has finished in the top 20 five times in his six appearances in Austria, with four of those ending as top-10 finishes and two landing him in the runners-up spot.
