Crystal Palace weighing up shock move for World Cup winner

Crystal Palace are set to make a shock move for Real Madrid goalkeeper Real Madrid in what would be a monumental signing for the Eagles.

The World Cup winning stopper looks likely to be on his way out of Real Madrid this summer with Manchester United’s David De Gea set to replace him at the Bernabeu.

Spanish newspaper AS has suggested that while the ‘keeper would prefer to remain at Madrid, London would be his preferred destination should he find himself frozen out at his current club.

And in a shock twist the publication reports that Palace are one of three clubs in the British capital weighing up the possibility of attempting to lure the 34-year-old to the Premier League.

Arsenal and Tottenham are rumoured to be the other two interested parties, though any move could be reliant on the cogs of the goalkeeper-transfer-merry-go-round kicking into life.

For the Gunners, their number one target remains Petr Cech, with the Chelsea man a 1/10 shot to be plying his trade at the Emirates in the season ahead.

Should that move fall through Arsene Wenger and co would surely jump to the front of the queue.

Spurs would presumably not be drawn into a search for a new goalie, but should De Gea move back to his homeland, it is widely believed that United would look to Hugo Lloris as his replacement.

But there are plenty of ifs and buts surrounding either of those sides making a move.

Alan Pardew could be well placed to steal a march on his London rivals and secure a coup the club hasn’t seen since the days of the bald eagle himself Attilio Lombardo strutting his stuff at Selhurst Park.

Having led them to a 10th place finish last season, the former West Ham and Newcastle boss will be looking for more improvement from his charges in the coming campaign.

Ladbrokes make Palace a 11/5 shot to secure a top half finish again, while for the most optimistic of Eagles’ fans it’s 20/1 that they cause a massive shock and breach the top six, something that the acquisition of Iker Casillas would undoubtedly help them towards.
