Message to the FA: Put Redknapp in charge of the England U21s

| 25.06.2015

It didn’t take long for the soul searching to begin following the England Under-21’s disappointing group stage exit at this year’s European Championship.

And keen to get in on the act we asked you who should replace Gareth Southgate as the Young Lions manager.

Harry Redknapp was deemed your leading candidate (really?) with the ex-West Ham, Portsmouth and Tottenham boss scooping 38 per cent of the vote.

The fact that Redknapp was overlooked for the senior side role didn’t deter you and the majority of you are obviously keen to see the 68-year-old return to football and take charge of England’s under-performing youngsters.

Somewhat depressingly the ‘don’t care, it’s the U21s’ answer finished up in second place.

And continuing the old school vibe it was Sam Allardyce who featured next on the list. Big Sam once claimed he would do well at Real Madrid so who are we to overlook his credentials?

But before pondering that outcome, spare a thought for poor Alan Curbishley.

No one has seen Curbs in a dugout since he left West Ham in 2008 but there’s still a vocal contingent hanging on to the hope that he may return to managerial duties one day.

However, given the fact that the fictional Mike Bassett managed to pick up more votes than him he should perhaps stay on the sofa and hang up his tracksuit permanently.
