Rising Real Madrid star could be on his way to Celtic

Celtic fans could be treated to one of the hottest prospects in European football next season with Real Madrid’s Martin Ødegaard set for a loan spell in Glasgow.

The 16-year-old has enjoyed a few cameo appearances for Los Blancos this season but the La Liga giants want the teen star to gain valuable first team experience and with the Bhoys taking part in the Champions League Celtic Park could yet be his destination.

  • Ødegaard is due to take part in Real’s summer tours of China and Australia but will be sent out on loan for the new season.

Celtic will have a battle on their hands to land the Norwegian international, with Malaga, Villarreal and Real Betis also hoping to secure temporary deals but the fact that Hoops manager Ronny Delia handled Ødegaard at previous club Strømsgodset means the Scots are leading the race.

  • Ødegaard rose to prominence after some dazzling displays for the Norwegian side in the 2014-15 campiagn and had a number of top clubs vying for his signature before Madrid won out with a huge deal.

A handful of solid performances for Real B saw him called up to the first team in recent weeks but new boss Rafa Benitez feels the teenager needs first-team experience at a high level.

Celtic are already the heavy favourites to retain their Scottish league crown next season, with title sponsors Ladbrokes offering 1/20 on a successful retention.

And while Bhoys fans will never get bored of winning the title any thoughts of a pedestrian campaign would be put to rest with Ødegaard on the pitch.
