5 men including Kop target tipped to follow Schweini to United

| 12.07.2015

Manchester United sprung a couple of surprise purchases over the past couple of days, with Italy’s number one right-back Matteo Darmian signed from Torino, and Bayern Munich midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger thought to be all-but in the bag.

The Red Devils’ transfer window reawakening, having only signed Dutch forward Memphis Depay before yesterday, has sent Rumourville into a tizzy, but the papers can’t seem to agree who manager Louis van Gaal and the Old Trafford money men will target next.

The Star believes United will now turn their attentions towards La Liga, having milked Serie A and the Bundesliga, with long-time centre-half target Nicolas Otamendi, of Valencia, mooted as the next man in.

Spanish gossip-peddlers Marca think differently, suggesting the 13-time Premier League champions are demanding Real Madrid duo Sergio Ramos and Keylor Navas in exchange for goalkeeper David de Gea.

Sergio Ramos has been linked with Man Utd once again

Marca is inextricably linked with Los Blancos and will happily create chaos for their cause, but any truth in this rumour would suggest Otamendi’s move isn’t as close as some would believe, with rumours of a Ramos switch steadfastly refusing to die.

The Manchester Evening News believes Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin’s move to the North West is still on, despite Schweinsteiger’s impending switch, with the local paper suggesting United had a £20m bid knocked back a fortnight ago.

Morgan Schneiderlin’s move to Old Trafford could still be on

Last but by no means least, the most surprising and potentially controversial Man Utd rumour of the day comes from the Sun, who suggest long-time Liverpool and Spurs target Christian Benteke has now come under the watchful eye of Van Gaal.

They go on to speculate that the Aston Villa striker would be a cheaper option than Bayern’s Thomas Muller or Napoli’s Gonzalo Higuain, and with captain Wayne Rooney currently the only senior centre-forward sure of a place in the Iron Tulip’s squad next season, there may be some truth in it.
