Cabaye to Palace ‘biggest coup since Tevez and Mascherano’

| 09.07.2015

Crystal Palace’s shock capture of Yohan Cabaye from PSG is the biggest transfer coup since West Ham landed Argentinean duo Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano.

However, the Selhurst Park outfit haven’t quite matched the Irons in the shock stakes, according to the latest Ladbrokes News poll.

After learning of Cabaye’s intention to reunite with Alan Pardew in south-east London we asked you to vote for the biggest coup of all time and with 42 per cent of the overall vote it was the former Corinthians duo that came out on top.

Showing everyone’s love for an English-based South American, Brazil ace Juninho came second in the poll, with his move to Middlesbrough earning a healthy 26 per cent of the vote.

Cabaye completed the top three with 18 per cent of the votes but if the Frenchman goes on to help Crystal Palace break into the top six – a feat priced at 20/1 for 2015-16 – more people could be swayed by his switch.

Next in the voting was another unlikely Crystal Palace signing in the shape of Champions League winner Attilio Lombardo.

The Bald Eagle was taken to Eagles fans’ hearts as a player and a manager in the late 1990s but was still only able to secure 14 per cent of the votes.

And bringing up the rear is former Tottenham and Arsenal defender, Sol Campbell.

The ex-England man was supposed to be part of a new era at Notts County under Sven Goran-Eriksson but his move failed to secure a single vote – to be fair he did leave after just one match!
