OFFICIAL: Williams sisters share sport’s greatest sibling rivalry
Serena Williams’ bittersweet win over sister Venus was the perfect way to back-up the latest Ladbrokes News poll, with the American siblings named as the best family rivalry in sport.
Ahead of the sisters’ sixth Wimbledon clash earlier today we asked readers to vote on the greatest sibling rivalry in the world of sport and they came out on top with 31 per cent of the overall vote.
Serena now lead Venus 4-2 in their SW19 head-to-head and after being dumped out the elder sister will be hoping the 19-time Grand Slam champion will go on to record a 20th major title at odds of 4/5.
Next in the voting were NFL brothers Eli and Peyton Manning. With American football in their blood both men are from great stock and have the Super Bowl rings to back it up.
However, while Peyton is widely regarded as the better player of the two it is Eli who has more jewellery. There’s still time for that to change though and with 29 per cent of the votes it clear many people anticipate further thrills.
Completing the top three are Dr Steelhammer and Dr Ironfist, Wladimir and Vitali Klitschko. The Ukrainian heavyweights secured 20 per cent of the votes but if the multiple champions had stepped into the ring that total would probably have been much higher.
Manchester United legend and Leeds United lynchpin Bobby and Jack Charlton were next in the voting but despite playing for those heated rivalries the England heroes managed just 17 per cent of the votes.
And bringing up the rear are triathlon machines Alistair and Jonathan Brownlee. The pair boast six World Championship gold medals between them as well as gold and silver at the London 2012 Olympics respectively.
However, with Alistair frequently outperforming his younger brother their rivalry earned just three per cent of today’s vote.
