Remy to Crystal Palace a step closer as the market gets a shake-up

Published:

Crystal Palace are not done with their spending this summer, with the market suggesting a move for Loic Remy is on the cards.

Alan Pardew’s acquisition of Yohan Cabaye from Paris Saint-Germain last week was seen as somewhat of a coup, and it now appears Loic Remy could join his fellow Frenchman at Selhurst Park.

Available at 8/1 before the weekend, the price on the Chelsea man starting the upcoming campaign in south London shortened right up into 11/4 after a sustained period of support.

The 28-year-old looked set to be off to Turkey with Besiktas, but talk of such a move appears to have gone quiet with a switch to the Black Eagles pushed out from Evens to 11/10.

The only other side that appear to stand in Pardew’s way of another big signing is former club West Ham.

The Hammers are in the market for striking reinforcements and are fancied as 11/8 second-favourites to secure the signature of the seven-goal man.

A bid from either club could be subject to development on the ongoing saga surrounding Charlie Austin.

The QPR man is wanted by no fewer than six Premier League clubs according to reports, though with his current employers holding out for a fee of around £15m, the likes of Palace and West Ham could look elsewhere.

Remy, who faces even more competition for game-time with the arrival of Radamel Falcao at Stamford Bridge, could be the answer.

Chelsea are said to be holding out for a similar fee to the one commanded by their west London neighbours for Charlie Austin, though they would certainly be more open to a loan move for the former Marseille man.

While they performed admirably last season, the need for an out-and-out goalscorer at Selhurst Park is obvious, with Jason Puncheon their top Premier League scorer last season with six strikes.

The Eagles soared to a 10th-place finish in 2014-15, and with the arrival of Cabaye and the potential signing of Remy, look solid value to repeat last season’s heroics at a price of 9/5.
