Spurs want Crystal Palace star to complete attacking facelift

Published:

Mauricio Pochettino has successfully slimmed-down Tottenham’s bloated central midfield and upgraded their defensive unit. All that remains is a dynamic facelift on his attack.

Whether it be on the wings or through the middle, the Argentine needs to introduce fresh legs to a section of his squad that relied heavily on two men last term.

Harry Kane was the obvious success story of Spurs’ season, but found little support from Roberto Soldado and Emmanuel Adebayor. News that the north Londoners will be bidding for West Brom livewire Saido Berahino indicates that Pochettino has a fair idea of who he wants to replace that bumbling pair.

Similarly, Nacer Chadli was the only Tottenham wide-man to finish the season in any credit. After numerous links with young forwards across Europe, it seems the former Southampton tactician has finally settled on the man to reinvigorate the Lilywhites’ wide areas: Crystal Palace’s Yannick Bolasie.

Aside from the Belgian, who netted 11 Premier League goals in 28 starts last term, none of Spurs three other wingers really lived up to expectations.

As a result, Aaron Lennon, Andros Townsend and Erik Lamela are all taking turns in being linked with moves away from White Hart Lane.

Regardless whether any of that trio depart, Spurs need to add better dynamism alongside Chadli’s eye for goal and it’s Bolasie that the 13/2 top-four hopefuls have earmarked.

West Ham, Newcastle and Aston Villa are also all interested in landing the DR Congo international, who enjoyed a breakout season with the Eagles in the top-flight last term, scoring four goals and making 11 assists in 34 Premier League appearances.

However it is Spurs that the Daily Mirror believe Bolasie would prefer to move to and, according to the paper, Palace are growing increasingly worried about their ability to hold on to the player.
