Ex Liverpool stopper nets volley to rival best goalkeeper strikes

| 12.08.2015

There is something about watching a goalkeeper score a great goal that bends the mind of the football fan.

These guys aren’t supposed to be any good at the beautiful parts of the game, they are more concerned with denying them.

However, every once in a while the men with the gloves do something that reminds us they are professional footballers for a reason.

ADO Den Haag stopper Martin Hansen, once on Liverpool’s books, was the latest to join the “skilful goalies” club in scoring the below back heeled effort in his club’s Eredivisie opener against PSV, a goal that rescued a point for his side.

It got us here at Ladbrokes News reminiscing about the other great goalkeeper goals scored over the years, with the below list most fondly remembered:

Peter Schmeichel v Rotor, 1995

The Great Dane scored 13 goals during his illustrious career and perhaps holds a higher standing as a goal-scoring keeper because he didn’t take free-kicks or penalties.

His leaping ability at corners was matched by a seriously good bonce, as he showed when netting a late equaliser for Manchester United against their Russian opponents in the UEFA Cup.

Ali Ahamada v Stade Rennais, 2012

While Schmeichel leapt like a world-class target man to nod home for United, Toulouse keeper Ahamada rather fell onto his headed effort in stoppage time against Stade Rennais in 2012.

Regardless of his lack of grace, the fact he managed to guide the ball into the bottom corner with his head while facing away from goal is seriously impressive.

Tolo Barcelo v Mallorca B, 2013

A goalkeeping header is a fine sight, but a goalkeeping overhead kick is the zenith of all the stopper strikes and Alcudia number one Barcelo placed himself above his peers with this effort.

The fact it was scored in the lower reaches of the Spanish footballing pyramid make it all the more charming.
