Majority of voters say McIlroy should’ve stayed at home

| 13.08.2015

Rory McIlroy might well be about to tee off in his bid to land back-to-back US PGA Championship titles but the majority of Ladbrokes News voters think the Northern Irishman should’ve stayed at home.

In fact, 59 per cent of you voiced your concerns following McIlroy’s high-profile recent absence due to an ankle injury.

And it’s apparent that the world number one’s quickfire return hasn’t left you convinced of his fitness despite bullish claims about his chances at Whistling Straits.

Rather than risk ending up in one of the 1,000 bunkers at the course a sizeable number of you felt that Rory would’ve been better off putting his feet up.

However, with an emerging rival like Jordan Spieth on your tail, perhaps that’s easier said than done.

The 21-year-old American is a serious contender to McIlroy’s place at the head of the sport having landed two majors and ended up T4 for a third so far this season.

Maybe that’s why the remaining 41 per cent of voters didn’t agree that the current rankings leader has returned to playing golf too soon.
