Wingers remain out of Man Utd favour as Sunderland track Belgian

| 05.08.2015

Angel Di Maria isn’t the only Manchester United winger to feel unloved by Louis van Gaal. Nani and Wilfried Zaha can both sympathise with the cold shoulder Van Gaal has shown the Argentine in shipping him off to Paris Saint-Germain, with yet more wide men set to be axed.

The Sunderland Echo believe that their local top-flight club are moving closer to landing rarely-seen Belgian speedster Adnan Januzaj on a season-long loan, as Van Gaal continues to swing the axe on the squad he inherited from David Moyes.

Swiftly following on from selling the likes of Zaha, Shinji Kagawa and Danny Welbeck in his first summer in charge, the Dutch tactician has continued to farm out what he considers dead wood during the current transfer window.

Nani, Robin van Persie and Rafael have all been sold, with Januzaj reportedly soon to follow, albeit temporarily.

Sunderland, under U-turn manager Dick Advocaat, have embarked on an opposing transfer strategy this summer, welcoming a number of new recruits, while selling few of the squad that almost dragged them down last term.

Should Januzaj, who has quickly morphed into a bit-part player at United having been one of the rare shining lights in David Moyes’ tumultuous one season in charge, join Sunderland he would be the seventh new signing at the Stadium of Light.

In combination with forward Jeremain Lens, who Advocaat picked up from Dynamo Kiev, the former Anderlecht youth would certainly give the Black Cats forward line a dose of trickery and pace.

No doubt keen to revitalise his career, despite being only 20-years-old, the Belgian winger would hope that an extended run in a Premier League first team will either convince Van Gaal to give him more chances or persuade another team to sign him permanently.

Sunderland open their Premier League campaign with a trip to Leicester rated at 14/5 to gain victory.
