Tough times will soon be over for Queen’s Park

A 1-0 loss at Berwick Rangers on Saturday consigned Queen’s Park to a second straight defeat in Ladbrokes League 2, but a quick look ahead reveals potentially promising weeks to come.

The Spiders can take heart from their performance at Shielfield Park, having seen Scott Gibson sent off just 19 minutes in. The hosts scored from the resultant spot-kick but a resolute Queen’s side held out valiantly and could easily have nicked a deserved point on another day.

As it is, Gus MacPherson’s men will understandably be a little aggrieved to be sitting seventh in the table, after away wins at Arbroath and Clyde.

But after taking a little look at Queen’s’ upcoming four fixtures, there’s plenty of reason to be optimistic of a climb up the standings.

East Stirlingshire visit Hampden Park this coming Saturday, and the Shire are enduring a woeful run away from home.

Craig Tully’s side have lost all three of their trips around Scotland so far this season in all competitions, scoring once yet conceding a worrying 12 goals.

The Shire’s last win on the road came in mid March, and they’ve since gone through seven winless matches away from Ochilview Park.

To further boost Queen’s hopes, they ran out comfortable 3-0 winners when these sides last met at Hampden back in December.

A potentially tricky tie at home to Elgin follows a week later,  but the boys from Borough Briggs have lost both of their away games this term and have failed to win any of their last four visits to the Glorious Hoops.

Then there’s a trip to struggling Stirling Albion, who only claimed their first win of the campaign last time out, and that came in the Stirlingshire derby, where form often goes out of the window.

In two games at Forthbank this term, Stirling have been defeated on both occasions.

To conclude this quartet of games is a home tie with Montrose. The Gable Endies may be sitting nicely in third, but dig a little deeper into the League 2 table and it’s clear where their success lies.

All of Montrose’s points so far have come at home, but on the road a leaky defence has been punished five times already.

There’s good reason to believe the Spiders could win each of their next four matches and fly up the table. At the very least a good hatful of points, a run of form and a boost in morale is there for the taking.

So while Queen’s fans may be a little down after the last two results, there’s every reason to believe that by the time the final whistle blows on the third of October, things could be looking a lot different, and a lot brighter.
