Annan’s third summit of League Two makes them a prime punt

Judging by the frequency in which the lead has changed hands early on in Ladbrokes League Two, solid predictions of a champion are difficult to make.

Nine games in and six different teams have occupied top spot. However, the team which has just returned to the front for the third time must now be a very attractive betting proposition indeed.

Annan Athletic left Gayfield victorious for the first time in four attempts when defeating Arbroath 2-0, but their price to seal automatic promotion to League One as champions is still longer than three other contenders.

Ladbrokes customers can grab the Galabankies at 5/1, behind 4/1 chances Clyde and 3/1 joint favourites East Fife and Queens Park.

With the Spiders and The Fife next up in the league, there’s sure to be another great shift in the odds as the next few weeks pan out.

However, if Jim Chapman’s men continue their unbeaten start at Galabank and even record victory over Queens Park and an early double over East Fife, then backing the boys from Dumfries and Galloway now may well be optimum.

Iron-clad home form is always an essential ingredient for any potential title winner and the longer Annan can keep Galabank a fortress, the more the belief will grow that they are in it for the long haul.

It’s now nine games since Chapman’s men failed to find the net which is also another sign of rude health from a side who have scored the second highest amount of goals in the division.

Four clean sheets from nine in the league also shows there is enough balance in the side as well, but there’s no mistaking the next two matches are pivotal in terms of momentum and belief.
