Form is temporary but Paul Scholes shows class is permanent

It’s been two and a half years since Paul Scholes hung up his professional boots for good, but the former Manchester United man showed this week that he can still strike a ball as sweetly as ever.
Scholes was in Hong Kong this week as part of an exhibition match involving a Premier League All-Star XI and he produced the sort of finish which was once commonplace at Old Trafford for year after year.

Many regarded the 40-year-old as the best midfielder of his generation, and earlier this week former Manchester United team-mate Diego Forlan was quoted saying Scholes was the best player he played with.
Forlan’s comments merely extend the list of those who have praised the Englishman, with Andrea Pirlo, Xavi and Cristiano Ronaldo all going on record to express their admiration for Scholes’ rare and exceptional qualities.
One of Fergie’s Fledglings from the Class of ’92, Scholes spent nearly 20 years as at Old Trafford, racking up over 700 appearances and 150 goals for the Red Devils in a career which claimed every trophy going.
Since his ending his playing days in 2013, Manchester United have spent hundreds of millions on players such as Juan Mata, Angel Di Mara, Morgan Schneiderlin and Ander Herrera in a bid to replace the Mancunian’s talents on the pitch.
We don’t think many would say they have succeeded.
