Kamara: Merseyside Derby to make or break Rodgers’ Liverpool future
The pressure that Brendan Rodgers is facing in the press in regards to his Liverpool future is there for all to see. And it’s up to him to now make a statement in the biggest game on Merseyside.
This weekend against Everton is the big one for the Northern Irishman. It is a massive match as far as Liverpool supporters are concerned, an absolute mega game.
This is the one that could decide Brendan Rodgers’ future. He’ll know that, he’ll understand the situation fully.
It’s not do-or-die by any means. If it’s a draw both sets of fans could go away quite happy depending how it pans out.
If Liverpool go on to lose handsomely, then of course he is going to come under massive pressure.
However while it is natural for fans to want to see more from their team, the talk of Jurgen Klopp coming in to replace the Liverpool boss is not fair when he is still in the role.
Brendan’s still got the job at the end of the day, I can fully understand him getting annoyed.
People shouldn’t be talking about his replacement before he has even left the club.
At the end of the day he’s done a good job at Anfield with the cards he has been dealt.
He’s got Daniel Sturridge coming back to full fitness and you’ve seen what a difference he makes to the team when he is in there.
He converts the chances that are put in front of him. If the team weren’t creating chances in all of these games then you’d start to worry.
Sturridge has played in one of their last three games, and they won that match. Of the other two that he didn’t feature, they created chance after chance but just didn’t convert them.
One man doesn’t make a team, don’t get me wrong, and the others at Anfield need to start taking their chances.
If they stop creating opportunities and continue to lose games, then you would perhaps say that it might be time for Brendan to go, but at the moment they’re still playing reasonably well and creating those chances.
All eyes will now be on the events at Goodison Park, but if Liverpool continue the progression with Sturridge leading the line, things will click soon enough.
