Kamara: New Liverpool boss Klopp won’t win games with charisma

| 09.10.2015

He may carry himself in a good manner, but the fawning over new Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is in danger of overlooking what matters in football.

The German is very charismatic in the way that he appeals to supporters, however you can have all the charisma in the world but it doesn’t make a jot of difference.

What matters are results on the pitch. If you don’t get those wins then you simply have no chance.

That is going to be the be-all-and-end-all, not how much he makes the fans laugh or how much he applauds them and all that kind of stuff.

We’re going to have to wait and see if he can deliver the “emotional, strong, fast football” at Anfield with the personnel that he has at his disposal.

The one thing he does have going for him is that he won’t be judged until he has had a chance to bring some of his own players in.

He’s on a bet to nothing at the moment. If things click straight away he will be hailed a genius, if he doesn’t then he will be given time until he can bring in the players that he wants to, so he is sitting pretty for the time being.

I think from the position they were left in when Brendan Rodgers left, there is no doubt that there is improvement to come from this Liverpool side.

Daniel Sturridge is coming back to full fitness and Jordan Henderson has been out for a while and it was clear to see that results were about to pick up, but unfortunately for the Northern Irishman his time ran out.

I’m disappointed for Brendan. I think when he made that statement a couple of weeks ago he knew that people were out to get him, and that approaches had already been made to Jurgen Klopp who in turn was interested in taking the job.

Once Klopp said yes, Rodgers was history.

In hindsight, the fact that they have waited until the international break makes me think that whatever happened in the Merseyside derby, whether they had won 5-0 or lost 5-0, it wouldn’t have made any difference.

There were pros and cons in terms of Brendan’s spell at the club.

He did a fantastic job, getting them so close to winning the Premier League, only for them to lose it in those late games against Chelsea and Crystal Palace.

But once Luis Suarez was sold and the signings they made with that money didn’t work out things went downhill.

If you had to single any signing out it would have to be Mario Ballotelli.

With the history Balotelli has you’d have to say that Rodgers was putting his future on the line from the moment they went and got him.

In the end though, it was results on the pitch that would have contributed to Rodgers demise and now it is up to Klopp to lead the Kop to success again.
