Ladbrokes League 2: Smart finishing gives Annan breathing space

Published:

Just as we’d predicted on Friday, Annan Athletic have put daylight between themselves and the rest of the chasing pack following the latest round of Ladbrokes League 2 fixtures.

Their victory over Queen’s Park puts the Galabankies three points clear of East Fife while at the other end of the table there was finally reason to be cheerful for East Stirling fans.

Here’s our round-up of all the action…

As hinted at in the headline, Annan talisman Smart Osadolor was once again an integral part of their success.

His 36th-minute opener put Jim Chapman’s side on their way to a 3-1 victory over Queen’s Park with Peter Weatherson adding a second three minutes before half-time.

Paul Woods pulled one back but Josh Todd settled any nerves late on to wrap up a sixth win in 10 league games.

In the ongoing scrum below, East Fife failed to make much headway having been held by Berwick Rangers.

The Borderers had taken the lead through a Finn Graham effort before Ross Drummond was sent off a minute before the break.

And eventually their resistance was broken as Kyle Wilkie scored an 89th minute leveller to ensure the Fifers took a share of the spoils.

Unfortunately for Montrose they weren’t able to capitalise on their nearest rivals’ slip-ups.

Their poor form on the road continued with Arbroath running out 3-1 victors at Gayfield Park.

Ladbrokes’ September Player of the Month Bobby Linn bagged a brace to put The Red Lichties two goals to the good and Greg Rutherford added a third 11 minutes from time.

Graham Webster netted a consolation for the visitors who’ve now lost four of their five away games this season.

Meanwhile, Stirling Albion gained revenge for their opening day defeat to Clyde by recording a narrow 1-0 win at Broadwood Stadium.

Alex Cunningham netted the game’s only goal after half an hour and they held on to that lead despite having Craig Comrie dismissed for a second bookable offence.

And finally, East Stirling ended a six-game losing run by beating Elgin City 2-0 at Ochilview Park.

Jonny Court handed them the advantage within the first 20 minutes and then Alistair Roy wrapped up a precious victory with three minutes remaining.
