NFL Acca: Patriots underpin hunt for third straight success

Having strung two consecutive fourfolds together across the past two weeks, the bid for a third in succession will rely on some of the league’s in-form teams overcoming the point spread.

Our latest selection returns £61.50 from a £10 stake, following on from hauls of £70 and £131 from the previous two triumphs:

Arizona Cardinals (-3) to beat Detroit Lions @ 5/6

The Lions are the only winless side left in the NFL and will have a difficult job chalking up their first W of the year against the high-scoring Cardinals.

Over the past three weeks Arizona has averaged 39 points per game. The Lions have scored 38 in total across their opening four outings.

The tandem of quarterback Carson Palmer and wide receiver Julio Jones continues to propel the Cardinals, who should have little trouble overcoming a friendly handicap.

Denver Broncos to beat Oakland Raiders @ 1/2

The common conception of the Broncos is that they are a freight train on offence, however it has been their work on the defensive side that has been key to their 4-0 start in 2015.

Denver ranks as the best team in the NFL against the pass and the eighth best against the run. It’s no surprise then that the club allows the second fewest points per game.

That effort has covered for Peyton Manning’s scratchy start under the snap, although the great man won’t go all year out of sorts. He has a good chance of returning to form against the Raiders, who he’s won the last nine against.

New England Patriots (-9) to beat Dallas Cowboys @ 20/21

Backing the Patriots to beat the spread has been a staple of our winning run and the same play once again crops up in the NFL’s fifth week.

Coming off last week’s bye refreshed, the Patriots are taken to again use their opponents’ defence like a rag doll.

Dallas, still without a number of key men including quarterback Tony Romo, allowed the New Orleans Saints 359 yards through the air last week and will be stretched against a Pats offense that is merely averaging that much this season.

New York Giants to beat the San Francisco 49ers @ 1/3

As common as it has been to back the Pats on the spread, opposing the 49ers is becoming equally as reliable.

San Francisco have lost three in a row this season and haven’t won on the road in four, which stretches back to last term. In their two games away from the Bay Area in 2015, they’ve given up 90 points.
