POLL: Australia to upset favourites New Zealand in World Cup final

Published:

Australia will win the Rugby World Cup at Twickenham on Saturday afternoon to upset favourites and southern hemisphere rivals New Zealand.

So say the voters in today’s Ladbrokes News poll, who fancy the Wallabies to create one last bit of underdog drama in a thrilling Rugby World Cup.

Australia are 9/4 to lift the Webb Ellis Trophy at Twickenham this weekend, with New Zealand favourites, as they have been all tournament, at 4/11.

The All Blacks have won 20 of the last 25 meetings with the Wallabies but that hasn’t stopped you fancying the outsiders in the showpiece.

Some 55 per cent of you say Michael Cheika’s Australia will prevail.

The Aussies have ridden their luck at times in the tournament, and some may feel Scotland or even Argentina deserve to be in the final, but it looks like the boys from Down Under will have plenty of support in the competition’s conclusion.

That left 45 per cent of you voting for New Zealand, and perfectly understandably too. The Kiwis have swept aside all before them over the last six weeks.

Perhaps Australia have been given the nod purely because everyone’s backing the 9/4 outsiders, but however the final goes on Saturday afternoon, it’s sure to be a belter.
