Strictly Week 5: Helen and Ajaz Express is gathering momentum
Whisper it quietly but Helen George is fast emerging as a very real contender for this year’s Strictly Come Dancing crown.
Granted, it’s not the world’s best kept secret. Helen and dance partner Ajaẑ Skorjanec have posted consistently high scores throughout the competition so far.
But week five’s Quickstep to ‘You Can’t Hurry Love’ saw the couple soar to new heights with judge Bruno Tonioli left drooling.
Alas, for every winner there has to be a loser and it was flamboyant chef Ainsley Harriott who got the boot. His departure leaves Jeremy Vine and Carol Kirkwood holding the baton for the also-rans but they’re not the only ones who should be looking over their shoulders.
Here are the main talking points from week five…
It’s getting tight at the top
The bookies have been quick to react to the latest instalment of Strictly. Jay McGuiness has seen his odds cut AGAIN. The Wanted singer is now just Evens to land the Glitterball trophy following a stupendous Paso Doble to ‘It’s My Life’.
However, five different couples have now occupied top spot on the leaderboard, a sign that this year’s edition is far from being a one-horse race.
Kellie Bright and Kevin Clifton shared top billing with Helen and Ajaẑ in week five.
We’ve already talked up Eastenders actress Kellie, a 10/1 shot for glory.
Meanwhile, Helen’s available at 6/1 and the contestant most us have forgotten about, Peter Andre, remains the 5/1 second favourite.
Fright night in store for bottom four
Halloween is fast approaching and the Strictly Grim Reaper will be on hand to dispose of one gruesome couple.
In this instance you can’t ignore the odds with the bottom four in the betting looking most vulnerable.
Jamelia’s been in the dance-off twice now while it’s only a matter of time before Kirsty Gallacher, Jeremy Vine and Carol Kirkwood get picked off.
