Toothless Liverpool vulnerable to a Southampton raid

| 25.10.2015

Any illusions about a remarkable impact from their new manager will soon have disappeared after Liverpool fans witnessed a flat midweek display in Europe.

A raft of changes by Jurgen Klopp couldn’t be blamed either, as the German tactician switched only one player from his dugout debut at White Hart Lane, where a bright enough start to his tenure masked some glaring deficiencies.

Klopp knew there was plenty of work to do with his inherited squad before he took the reins, but one area he needs to address straight away is the serious lack of goal threat.

With promising striker Danny Ings crocked and Daniel Sturridge seemingly unable to stay fit, there is a worrying lack of goals in the Liverpool side as they prepare to face a dangerous Southampton outfit at Anfield in the Premier League.

Ings and Sturridge have scored half Liverpool’s miserly tally of eight and although Christian Benteke has a couple, the big Belgian showed his rustiness in a cameo appearance against Rubin Kazan.

Liverpool have only scored multiple goals at home once all season, while Southampton have been finding the net for fun.

Ronald Koeman’s side have scored 10 across their last four league matches, hitting MK Dons for six in between, while winning two of the last three before being held 2-2 by high-flying Leicester prior to this.

Chelsea were 3-1 victims on the road and the Saints will fancy their chances of exploiting the Reds’ blunted attack and earning another big away result.

The visitors look a chunky price at 11/4 to inflict defeat, while those of a more cautious nature may fancy a slice of the 4/5 on Southampton double chance.

Whereas the Reds are yet to discover a regular source of goals this season, in Manchester United target Saido Mane, Saints have just that.

The Senegalese hotshot has bagged six in all competitions and four in four, so first scorer backers need look no further.

Mane is an 8/1 chance to break the Anfield deadlock, which is eligible for Ladbrokes’ Sharp Shooter offer on televised games.
