Ladbrokes League 1: Ayr to cement position as table toppers

Published:

The international break may have decimated the top two divisions in Scotland this week but it’s business as usual in Ladbrokes League 1, with four mouth-watering ties to look forward to.

Table toppers Ayr play host to Albion Rovers and have the opportunity to create a gap over at least one of their nearest rivals with second-place Dunfermline travelling to third-place Airdrieonians.

Elsewhere, Cowdenbeath host basement boys Brechin City, while Stenhousemuir look to keep pace with the sides above them when they host Forfar.

Here’s our guide to this week’s games.

Airdrieonians v Dunfermline

Airdrieonains have had the best of this fixture in recent times, winning two and drawing two of the last four. That could be set to change, however, with the Pars winning three and drawing one of their last four home games without conceding a single goal. Wins of 3-0, 4-0 and 5-0 reveal a team not fazed by playing away from home.
Best Bet: Dunfermline to win to nil @ 3/1

Ayr v Albion Rovers

Ayr top the table going into the weekend and Ian McCall’s men will be confident of remaining there having won three of their last four meetings with Albion Rovers.

The hosts are unbeaten in 10 games, while Rovers have taken maximum points on the road just twice in five attempts. With United scoring three in each of their last three wins over the Rovers another high-scoring affair could be on the cards here.
Best Bet: Ayr (-1) @ 31/20

Cowdenbeath v Brechin City

Cowdenbeath have won just once in five meetings with Brechin, with City winning three of those ties and with the hosts winning just one of their last five games in the league that record looks set to get worse. The Blue Brazil are unbeaten in five at Central Park but the run has to end at some point and recent history suggest City can be the team to stop them.
Best Bet: Brechin City to win @ 2/1

Stenhousemuir v Forfar Athletic

Stenhousemuir may have boosted their confidence with back-to-back wins, while Athletic come into the tie on the back of three straight losses but it’s hard to overlook the last five meetings. Forfar have won on each occasion, with four of those victories coming by at least two goals. It would mean a turnaround in current form but history lovers will be backing an away win.
Best Bet: Forfar (-1) @ 19/4
