Monty the Penguin sticks two flippers up to the Man on the Moon

John Lewis’ latest Christmas TV advert has come in for some criticism from cynics and unfortunately for the retail giant it doesn’t get much better as Ladbrokes News readers vote it worse than last year’s offering.

Our latest poll asked you to tell us which festive tale from the archives topped the lot and there was a runaway winner with 2014’s Monty’s Christmas receiving nearly half of the votes.

With 47 per cent of the shouts, the feathered fellow clearly pulled on the heartstrings of many a viewer.

He pulled out a sizeable advantage over this year’s Man on the Moon and 2012’s offering The Journey, each bringing in 18 per cent of the votes.

A total of 11 per cent of you gave the thumbs up to The Long Wait from 2011, while The Bear and the Hare trailed in last of all with a paltry six per cent.

This year’s advert may not have been the best John Lewis has had to offer but the soundtrack featured is clearly to many people’s liking.

The cover of Oasis’ ‘Half the World Away’ by Norwegian songstress Aurora has been backed in from 16/1 to 5/1 to land the coveted Christmas number one spot.
